rebedding one stanchion – am I overthinking this?

One stanchion is showing a little moisture below deck. No obvious movement. I am tempted to pull it, clean everything back to good material and rebed it now. Anything dumb I should know before I turn a 2 hour job into a weekend project?

take pictures before it comes apart. especially backing plates and washer order. also have a plan if one of the bolts just spins. thats usually where the 2 hour job becomes saturday.

Following this one. I have a tiny brown mark under one of mine and have been pretending I dont see it. Is the normal move butyl tape or sealant on something like a stanchion?
