diesel rough for 20 sec after warm restart

Cold start is clean. Warm restart after sitting 15 or 20 minutes is lumpy for maybe 20 seconds then smooth. No smoke worth mentioning. Filters are not old. Before I start throwing parts at it, what would you check first?

I would start boring. Check for air getting in around the filter housing and fuel connections, then confirm the stop cable is fully returning. If it is repeatable only warm that is useful info. I would not buy injectors yet.
