what are you guys actually checking before heading out on lake michigan? I look at NOAA and Windy but I still feel like I am missing something when the forecast changes fast.

NOAA first, then buoy data if there is something nearby. radar too if storms are even remotely possible. apps are nice for the picture but I want to see what is actually happening on the lake.

I use Windy mostly because I can flip between models fast. If two models disagree a lot I get more cautious. Timing the wind shift has burned me more than the actual wind speed.
